Recreation & Community Involvement

Positive recreational activities and community involvement are essential for supporting the healthy development of youth, especially those impacted by parental incarceration or other life challenges. Engaging in structured programs -- like sports teams, after school clubs, leadership groups, and volunteer opportunities -- helps juveniles build important life skills, stay connected to positive peer groups, and discover  a sense of purpose and belonging.

Programs

Protective Factor

Participation in recreation and community programs not only promotes physical health and emotional well-being, but also serves as a critical protective factor against risky behaviors, delinquency, and social isolation. These opportunities allow youth to develop confidence, learn teamwork, build trust with mentors and peers, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Recreation and community-based activities create safe spaces where youth can thrive, form positive relationships, and build a strong foundation for future success.
